Names help establish an identity for your pet, and begin helping create a bond between you and your animal. We love our pets, and name them all sorts of lovable, cute, funny and tough names, depending on their personalities and ours!
I always found that distasteful and disrespectful, but he was dead, so I'm sure it doesn't matter, anyway. Gene Autrey's horse was named Champion and Tom Mix's was Tony. Dale Evan's horse was Buttermilk, but I don't think they stuffed her. And except for Flicka and Black Beauty and The Black Stallion, familiarly called "the Black" as I remember, all of whom started as books those are about the only horse names I can call to mind right now.

In response to:More Really Great Animal Names

That's an excellent name for a horse

In response to:More Really Great Animal Names

That's a coincidence as I was looking at this the other day:
I'm not much of a horse person but I loved the half-rememered story of Commanche (ironic name which is why I sort of remembered it) the only survivor of the Battle of the Little Bighorn.
The only horse I really remember is Roy Roger's 'Trigger' which is 'on show' in Missouri if I remember rightly.

In response to:What's in a name?

What a lovely post. My first animal was a dog called Bimbo - very un PC these days. No idea why my parents called him that. One of our nicest cats was still called Kitten even when he was grown up. He didn't seem to mind. Our only surviving cat is called Boo because Gareth brought him home as a surprise for us. He was the runt of the litter and no one wanted him but he has proved to be a real survivor and even in relatively old age is still going strong.

In response to:What's in a name?

Whenever I get an animal, I study the animal and watch for their personalities to shine through...I had a dog named Anna, Molly, Sam, Lucy, Genevieve, Lassie...I have had a cat called Muffin,Tristan, Jesse Jane, Mouse, Peso, Ubu, and I have had fish simply called fish..I have had birds call Fred and The Four Amigos.

In response to:Cold hands, Warm heart?

Mon fils, Tu dit vrai. (not sure that's right) many people live in cages of their own creation and will never know the joys we experience with our foxes and birds and 'possums, et tout.

I have nothing against having caged animals, especially birds and marmosets, which need to live so. I just don't like having them because of the time, etc. in caring for them; also the cats would never, never leave caged creatures alone in my house. I remember when my Daddy had Chico there was a cat who constantly wanted to sit on top of his cage and watch him, even when Chico would run upside down in the cage and bite his toes.

Once he knocked the cage over when he jumped on it and after that my Daddy had to be very careful to shut up the cage in a room the cat couldn't get in if no one was to home.

It is so nice to hear from you. More than nice, wonderful! comme une mere.

In response to:Cold hands, Warm heart?

lovely story, i can so well understand u words....
remenber the fox, yes we have the same problem all over the world, we ( humans) don`t care about animals or living species...
i relish in the same while i don`t have a attic and live in a tiny flat in london, i have a bird nest box outside and i feel so gratefull to have black birds nesting every year at my windows.
so it was the same with the baby fox, i often think about him...
keeping pets in cage that a difficult one for me, as i have some, my marmosets.
but at the same time, i think this is a conforting thing and i sometimes wonder, the debate of cage or not?
but all i have to do is look around and all i see is so many poor souls cage too...
saying this does not means i beleive u should replicated uself the same, but what is freedom but most of all, to be free?
all in love,
like a son
I would much rather not hurt anything but animals need to recognise my human rights as well - as I said somehow we need to achieve a balance. In the end we are living in what is best described as their space.

In response to:Cold hands, Warm heart?

I don't do celsius well, but I'm thinking that that means about 10 farenheit? Leaving food outside here attracts rats and I am not so keen on them. We had Squirrels in the loft but had to deter them (by blocking the gaps and using noise emitters) as they were using the glass fibre for bedding, chewing the wires and we were worried about the water supply. I love animals very much but in an artificial world we need to create a balance. We put nuts etc. out for the birds but I think the Squirrels get most of them.

In response to:Cold hands, Warm heart?

No all I got was the title.
